Some of you parents will be judging for the first time. Don't worry, we will be giving judging instructions at the tournament. We have to provide enough judges to meet our requirement. Needless to say, there will be many Leland judges there and not all of you may be used to judge. Please bring something to pass the time during the wait to be called for judging. Whether or not you're actually called on to judge, we still get credit for your being there. Your student has signed you up for one of two shifts. I know it is an imposition on your time to have you spend half your day there but it is necessary for your child's participation in the tournament.

Rotary Club Speech Contest: "Investing in the Future".  Contests are usually held in early February, 4-5 minute speeches.  Cash prizes, open to all ages.

Optimist Club Contest: 4-5 minute speech, topic changes every year.  Usually in March.  Final prize is a $1,500 scholarship.  Open to students who are not 16 years of age by January 1st, 2008.

Lions Club Contest: 5-10 minute speech, national topic.  Scholarships awarded.
